"After making careful enquiries into the work of the Kieler Mission, and perusing your report dated the 11th December last containing references to the Mission, His Excellency the Governor authorised the cashing of the cheques by the Hong Kong and Shang hai Bank, which is liquidating the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank. The sum of $ 850 represented all the money belonging to the Kieler Mission in Hong Kong, and although Mrs. Pun admitted that at the instigation of the German Consul at Paktoi the Mission had insert- ed some references to the war from the German point of view in their magazine, His Excellency did not consider it necessary to withhold the money which was apparently needed for the maintenance of the orphans and teachers in their schools".
